Bondi Farmers Market Launch

The past few months have been pretty busy, since I’ve been working to help launch a new farmers market at Bondi Beach Public School. I was at the launch this weekend and took some photos—and man, what a market it was! I had a great time (even having to be on a bus at 8 am on a Saturday… hehe). There was a great variety of stalls and a great turnout. Despite a brief cloudburst partway through, the weather was lovely and it was really nice to just wander around and listen to what people were saying and take in the ambiance of the day. I think the market’s going to do really well!

I made a roast leg of lamb this weekend too, with some veggies from the market. Check out the recipe!

Jem’s Graduation Photos

My good friend and past roommate Jeremy just graduated from the University of Sydney! He asked me to come take a few photos of him and some classmate friends on the day of their graduation.

It was a cloudy day but the lighting was still great—here are a few of the highlights. Congrats Jem!

Mel’s 21st: Bohemian Nights

One of Luke’s good friends growing up just had her 21st birthday the other weekend! I’m always impressed at the big to-dos made around 21st birthdays in Australia—we really have nothing like it in Canada. 18 is big because you’re an adult at long last, and 19 is big because you can drink, but between those and other events like prom and graduation, our big moments are done until the end of university or a wedding or some such. Anyway, I think it’s really special that people make a big deal out of turning 21 here… I wish we did it in Canada too.

I’m loving my new-to-me Canon 50 mm prime f/1.8 lens too. It’s been great for food photography and made taking photos in these low-light conditions really easy. I don’t normally wander around taking photos of strangers, but Mel’s decorations and everyone’s bohemian outfits were just fabulous! I loved how much everyone got into it.

Here are some of the highlights. I really like Luke with that scarf… and sssh, no one knows it was his mom’s!

I was thinking the other day that I really missed blogging about my photos. I’m a pretty shutter-happy person, and my blog used to be the place where I wrote about and shared my latest photos and (obviously) the activities that went with them. So, here are a few shots from a recent trip to Pearl Beach, up on the Central Coast north of Sydney.

I’m back from another cross-Canada trip, and actually managed to go from coast to coast in one day–though I do feel like I cheated a little bit since I didn’t actually go from Victoria to St. John’s, which would have been a bit more “coast to coast” than Vancouver to St. John’s. Oh well.

I just got all my pictures up onto Picasa Web; as always, they can be found in all their glory right here. The “Eastern Tour Lite” is on Facebook with only 120 pictures between two albums for both Newfoundland and Montreal–a more extensive set is on Picasa Web.

I was also fiddling with placing some pictures on the Google maps in Picasa Web–also a nifty feature, though I really don’t think enough people use Picasa Web yet for anyone to realize what’s really going on. For some reason I’m now getting visions of Google buying Facebook and integrating all of these technologies together–it’s a little mind-boggling.

I’ll put up a few of the best pictures in here with proper captions soon–in the meantime, enjoy this little slideshow!
