Bondi Farmers Market Launch

Bondi Farmers Market Launch

The past few months have been pretty busy, since I’ve been working to help launch a new farmers market at Bondi Beach Public School. I was at the launch this weekend and took some photos—and man, what a market it was! I had a great time (even having to be on a bus at 8 am on a Saturday… hehe). There was a great variety of stalls and a great turnout. Despite a brief cloudburst partway through, the weather was lovely and it was really nice to just wander around and listen to what people were saying and take in the ambiance of...

Jem’s Graduation Photos

My good friend and past roommate Jeremy just graduated from the University of Sydney! He asked me to come take a few photos of him and some classmate friends on the day of their graduation. It was a cloudy day but the lighting was still great—here are a few of the highlights. Congrats Jem!

Mel’s 21st: Bohemian Nights

One of Luke’s good friends growing up just had her 21st birthday the other weekend! I’m always impressed at the big to-dos made around 21st birthdays in Australia—we really have nothing like it in Canada. 18 is big because you’re an adult at long last, and 19 is big because you can drink, but between those and other events like prom and graduation, our big moments are done until the end of university or a wedding or some such. Anyway, I think it’s really special that people make a big deal out of turning 21...

A Farewell

A Farewell

It was a couple of weeks ago now that my parents called to say that they had to put down our dog, Kimmiq. It was a hard phone call, and one I’d been dreading for a long time. Kimmiq was thirteen and a half, which is ancient for a black labrador retriever. When I left for Australia last October, I knew that when I said goodbye it would probably be for good. He was very arthritic, and getting very weak because he couldn’t walk very much or very far. With all their experiences with other dogs, my parents knew it was Kimmiq’s...

Pearl Beach Sunset

I was thinking the other day that I really missed blogging about my photos. I’m a pretty shutter-happy person, and my blog used to be the place where I wrote about and shared my latest photos and (obviously) the activities that went with them. So, here are a few shots from a recent trip to Pearl Beach, up on the Central Coast north of Sydney. we saw a few of these clear jellyfish washed up on the...

down under dealio

I’ve been living in Sydney again for over six months now, and barely get around to blogging! What is this? All I can say is that I guess my brain has been enjoying some much-earned time off of thinking. University quite takes it out of you, but I’m gearing back into hobbies, reading, photography, and career-building. This is just a quick note from yours truly to say no, I haven’t fallen off the face of the Earth! I’m learning more and more about WordPress every day too, and you should (hopefully) be seeing my portfolio...

transition time

It’s always a lot of fun when you find yourself in the middle of an important time of your life–a time when every decision you make could very well change your future, a time that you’ll remember and second-guess all the time. I’ve hit the road running in this transition time, and while it’s a bit stressful–I’m going to stand by my old philosophy that 22 is the best age to be. I’m now done university, have moved across the globe, and am settling into a new life in a new country. It’s not an...

a Morris background

I’m getting very excited about an upcoming project that myself and two of my best girlfriends are taking on: a food blog! We’re still in the early planning stages–the dry ingredients are only just getting mixed, the bun isn’t even in the oven yet–but I’m thinking a lot about design ideas and how to make our blog beautiful and functional at the same time. During this pondering, I was perusing a book of William Morris wallpaper prints that my grandfather gave me the last time we visited Montreal. No, William...

back in reception

Luke and I just got back from a 10 day hiking / road trip that spanned British Columbia and Alberta, clocking in at about 3000 km by the time we arrived in Vancouver. As you can tell by the photo, our camera went everywhere we did, and there are some great photos to come! I’m visiting friends in Vancouver at the moment, but looking forward to heading back to Revelstoke for some r&r. I dropped Luke off at the Greyhound this morning for his voyage to San Fransisco and then Australia–it’s hard to believe that in less than a...

blueberry pie and life is good

Gosh I seem to be blogging about food a lot! Otherwise, though, all I’d be writing about is how annoying essays are, and all the little details that have to get taken care of in order to, you know, graduate and all. I took a break from essay writing yesterday to take advantage of well-priced blueberries at our local produce store. Mum sent me her tried-and-true blueberry pie recipe. It wasn’t as good as her pie, but that’s because mum gets to use freshly picked wild blueberries from around Revelstoke. They’re a lot...
